Mandrake Updates
May 8 2008
Lots happening in the Mandrake camp. The new album is FINISHED and is awaiting mastering in New Orleans with the great Bruce Barielle (Ani DiFranco, Radiators, and many more). We're looking at a fall 08 release.
The birth of GAVIN LEE SALOPEK has graced our presence. The little chap is full of piss and vinegar and ready to maintain a regimented lack of sleep for his pops.
Mandrake will be performing at the 3 RIVERS PROGRESSIVE ROCK FEST in Pittsburgh the weekend of Aug 23 2008. We'll be sharing the stage with prog luminaries like SPOCK's BEARD, THE FLOWER KINGS, CALIFORNIA GUITAR TRIO, GONGZILLA and more. Check out all the details and get your tix early!

Thanks for those who wait....
March 2 2008
We are still VERY busy behind the scenes and frantically trying to finish mixing all of the new material. Currently we have 4 tunes near completion, but are still tweaking the right tweaks for uncanny beauty. 5 more have yet to see the same fate. Spring of 2008 will surely be the time for Mandrake.

The new Mandrake is leaking out
January 26 2008
Finally after months of mysterious silence, we can tell you that Mandrake Project has been busier than ever behind the scenes. Since Nov. of 2007 we've been recording an entire album's worth of new material, and expect it to be finished by Feb. 24th 2008. We've also begun our fine partnership with the good folks at Roundtable Entertainment Network and hope to have this album released in the coming summer months under (undisclosed) label support. We're all VERY excited at how the new songs are coming together and think you'll agree. We've just added an unmixed snippet of "...And five makes twenty" to our MySpace. WWW.MYSPACE.COM/MANDRAKEPROJECT Check it out, let us know what you think.
Keep posted. Cheers. -MP

It has begun.
December 1 2007
It has begun. Mandrake Project entered MR. SMALLS recording facility again on Nov. 25th to begin work on our second album, but first "official" album release "A MIRACULOUS CONTAINER". We can also make public the scoop we've been keeping under wraps for several months now in that we've made an official partnership with the ROUNDTABLE ENTERTAINMENT GROUP. They will be working alongside the Mandrake camp to release the new album in what we hope to be June 2008. Keep posted and watch for this site to be changing soon.

Yes, we're still alive!
November 11 2007
The last few months have been quiet on the performance end of Mandrake but quite noisy on the rehearsal end. We've been preparing an entirely new group of songs to record and introduce live before years end. We also anticipate the beginning of what we see as a fruitful relationship with Roundtable Entertainment. More to come on that as details emerge. As promised, the site will soon be seeing a facelift from our art director Shervin. Expect great things, because they are happening behind the scenes.

MANDRAKEPROJECT.COM Facelift!
October 1 2007
Well,
Prepare yourselves to be seeing an all new look for MANDRAKEPROJECT.COM and all other MP related items in the next month or so. We've begun work with Shervin Iranshahr as the new art director for all things Mandrake. Some of his amazing work can be seen at ARTFIEND.NET. Check it out. Also, we will most likely be taking off the month of October for a round of intense writing and rehearsing. Recording for the next album officially begins in late Novemeber of 2007 and the current working title is "A Miraculous Container". We have an incredible collection of songs to present to everyone in what we'd hope to be the late summer of 2008. Keep your eyes open for some shows in November as well. Talk soon. -k

Mandrake's Heart still in New Orleans
August 1 2007
How can I even begin to begin? This post may take a few sittings, so check back in the next few days and you may find more dirt on our recent venture to the Big Easy. There is no single statement to sum up our affection for this city and the people we've befriended there. COMPLETELY AMAZING!!! Major props go out to JOHNNY WOODSTOCK for all of his help in everything we did. (We owe you a few more Abitas!) The staff at both the HIHO LOUNGE and DRAGONS DEN couldn't have been any nicer to a traveling band. Thanks BAKER, for the sound, recording help and hilarity of your laugh...unforgettable. GREAT BANDS and new friends, A LIVING SOUNDTRACK. Wow, these guys (and girl) blew us away. Same goes for I OCTOPUS and TOP SECRET. Thanks for the gear help! Also a huge thanks to CHRIS, DAVE ROSSER and MIKE DILLON for necessary help in letting us use their gear and storage space. You guys were life savers. We couldn't have made this happen without your assistance. Lastly we'd like to thank 2 parties: first the gracious folks of New Orleans who were outrageously supportive and enthusiastic about our performances. We will be coming back because of you and the undeniable spirit of art and music in your city. And finally, our amazing violinst RICK NELSON, his wonderful lady MICHELLE, and neighbor JAKE THE CAJUN who were patient enough to let 5 barbarians plunder their households for nearly a week. MANDRAKE PROJECT WILL BE BACK TO NEW ORLEANS THIS WINTER. COUNT ON IT. Check our gallery link on this page for some neat new photos. Cheers until the next late night at THE R BAR...

April 25 2007
It looks as if we'll have to wait on the first MANDRAKE AUDIO performance. The Mandrake Project will be able to perform in near full (no Rick Nelson) regalia for the Sound Kitchen Festival on May 12th at 7pm-AIR studios on the north side. Expect an unusual environment to meet up with MANDRAKE AUDIO in the near future.

Introducing...MANDRAKE AUDIO!!!
April 12 2007
MANDRAKE AUDIO...What's that? A simple yet appropriate answer for now. "A smaller, fragemented section of Mandrake Project that exists for various, purposeful reasons", such as: new composition research, alternate versions of existing material, orientation of alternate member associations, sudden performance opportunity and small performance situations. The normal Mandrake setup can be a logistic nightmare as well as organizing busy member schedules. Mandrake Audio is a new vehicle designed to sidestep such obstacles and keep progress rolling. Guests will come and go, and each particular MA lineup will appropriate to its own unique situation. Thru Mandrake Audio, Mandrake project will now be able to represent itself in a variety of new situations that was before considered impossible. The first test of Mandrake Audio will take place on MAY 12th for the Pittsburgh City Paper's SOUND KITCHEN celebration. MA will be represented as a 4-piece utilizing Anthony on bass, Ben on percussion, Kirk on guitars, and new satellite Rob Eldridge (EStatic) on loops, sequences and other assorted goodness. Come back soon for more details.

A big thanks to everyone for coming out in the cold to Club Cafe this past Saturday. Your generous support means a lot. The show was a great time for Mandrake (...as we hope it was the same for all of you). You may recall hearing some new material at the show that we'd decided on field testing that evening. Those 2 new tunes are the beginning of the next batch of Mandrake material, along with "LALUNA" (available for sample at our MYSPACE page). Check it out. More soon. -mp

Welly welly well,
Mandrake has done the deed. Thanks a ton first and foremost to all of the supporting acts that made last night a true multi-media experience. Anthony Fugate created yet another amazing sonic environment, Ritual Space Travel Agency continues to frighten and bombard, the incredible imagery of inspired photographers was a visual treat, the Khafif Belly dance troupe was absolutely gorgeous and fluid, and Gary Musisko & Terence Degnan provided the ultimate down-time backdrop of word and sound. Most of all thanks to the patient and forgiving audience that was subjected to some challenging sound problems. While we found the show to be a great success, we sincerely apologize for issues of sound that spiralled out of our control near the end of the set. We did our best to fight through some difficult moments near the end of the evening. All in all, things are good in Mandrake Land. Come see us again, and grab a copy of "A Favor to the Muse" which is now available.

MASTER COMPLETE! WHAT NEXT?
May 20 2006
Well...Let's just say that the Mandrake road is long, winding, (and consistently irritating). We have been unable to successfully nail down a date for the CD release party due to SEVERAL extraneous circumstances. (all beyond our control) The nature of this beast (booking discrepencies, band member sharing, personal ventures, and $$$) in many ways provides such an annoying palette and we'll have to maintain composure and patience as to not lose focus. Basically, DON'T FORGET ABOUT US!!! THINGS ARE HAPPENING. SLOWLY AND PAINFULLY!!! The mastering is done, and now time for pressing. We're hoping to have a sneek peek at 2 or 3 of the tunes available here to stave off curiousity in the next few weeks. Bye bye.

A FAVOR TO THE MUSE is complete.
April 8 2006
Jeez...Almost a year of on and off tracking, mixing, listening, laughing and irritating. The first Mandrake album was completed around 5am on April 1st. How fitting. Now off to mastering in NYC with Mr. Mark Dann. Pressing soon to follow. CD's should be available in about 2 months.

Release dates and so on...
March 20 2006
All intentions at this point are focused on having the CD release at the Rex Theatre in Pittsburgh's Southside. The hopeful date is loosely slated for Sat. June 24th. The show will hold many surprises, as we're trying to make this a multi-media event. Artwork from several of the area's most in demand photographers will be displayed, one of Pittsburgh's finest rock acts in recent years, RITUAL SPACE TRAVEL AGENCY will be reunited and opening the show, and many of the contributing musicians on the album will be present and hopefully joining in on the noise. Keep your ears and eyes open for info. In other news, "A FAVOR TO THE MUSE" may be distributed by the BURNINGSHED label in England. This label distributes incredible acts like PORCUPINE TREE, NO-MAN, TUNER, ROGER ENO and many others.

Uncle Tejas has come and gone.
February 23 2006
Wow...What a weekend. Mr. Rick Nelson has already come and gone in assisting Mandrake-ity. Our admiration and respect for him as a person and professional is limitless. His performance on Saturday the 18th, at Brillo Box made for a truly unforgettable evening. In addition, his participation in tracking and co-producing the album has added elements of wisdom and approach that were not before utilized. Some amazing sounds are on the way. Keep posted. "A Favor to the Muse" is coming.

BIG CHANGES
February 9 2006
Where should the tale begin this time? In the midst of Mandrake mixification and album jolly, two members have decided that departure is in their best interest. Original guitarist David L & violinist Justin G are pursuing needs outside of the Mandrake scope of intention. Our best to them both. We gladly welcome Mr. Ryan Meals (Science) as the newest Mandrakee. His approach to the guitar, humorous demeanor, and creative input has created a fresh new perspective on performance and composition. Future intentions on live string replacement hang in limbo as Beau's responsibilities have increased. Let's just say that perhaps things are sounding better than ever. In addition to personnel changes, the Mandrake HQ has moved from "Big Dave's Dirty House of Power" to a fresh new studio space. We'll have pics up soon. Stop back.

It's almost time.
December 4 2005
Alas...The date for tracking completion has come. December 14th provides the keystone session that moves Mandrake into the mixing phase of "Favor to the Muse". Mixing begins shortly after New Years and leads to a hopeful March release date. Have a great holiday and stop back for some performance dates. Cheers.

A Mandrake Addition?
November 3 2005
A recent meeting may be providing Mandrake with it's newest addition. By a chance overheard reference to a Fripp soundscape performance, former Lushwell member "Beau" (loops, sequences, programming) has found enough interest to begin live rehearsal with Mandrake. He will also be adding his densely hypnotic sequences to the upcoming album. Keep posted for more on this as well as upcoming live performances.

The Transfer is Complete
October 26 2005
Upon entering Mr. Smalls October 21st, a sigh of relief came over Mandrake as all songs & tracks were transferred into their system. The only remaining tracking exists in some horn parts featuring Boogie Hustlers Darnell & SB, Jesse Prentiss on upright bass, Mr. Guerra & Echo of Adam Evil additional strings, the choir, & Kirk and Chaplonious tying up loose ends. This will all hopefully be done by Nov. 12th. An immediate, intense and fatiguing phase of mixdown will ensue and last into December. January finish is still our common goal. Keep your eyes open for a few more upcoming performances. By the way, a fresh crop of Mandrake T-Shirts has appeared. 3 styles...Woo Hoo! Let us know if you are interested.
